For more 150 years top class horses, owners, trainers and jockeys have found their way to Iffezheim at the bottom of the Black Forest. There are three meetings each year - the Spring Festival in May, the Great Festival Week in August and the Sales & Racing Festival in October.
The Great Festival Week is the highlight of the German racing season, also from a social point of view. This is particular true this year as the racetrack at Iffezheim celebrates its 150. anniversary. In 1858 Amazone was the first winner here. The track was founded by French man Edouard Bénazet, owner of the famous gambling house "Spielcasino" at Baden-Baden.
In 1872 the Internationale Club was founded to run things and is still going strong. Racing at Baden-Baden is a fantastic experience as the region so close to the French border has plenty of things to offer - apart from top class racing.
Since 2004 there is a third meeting, the not so glamorous but very classy Sales & Racing Festival. It opens with the very valuable Ferdinand Leisten-Memorial for two-year-olds on Friday, then sees the Heel Baden-Wuerttemberg Trophy, a Group III which is part of the European racing series "Le defi du galop" on Saturday. On Sunday there the Preis der Winterkoenigin, the biggest races of the year for two year old fillies, is the highlight.
